I was fooled.

There's this tall, weedy plant popping up next to last year's garden. Every day I pass by it and shake my head. I have never seen it bloom although it is covered with yellow buds. Withering yellow blossoms droop each day, like those of a squash. After sunset last night, Lynne walked by it and called me over. There it was, in the failing light, in full bloom. Huge yellow flowers opened up to the night sky. I think it's an evening primrose, Lynne said. A night bloomer, I had missed it's show over and over. Tonight I'll visit it again.
