My daughter turns 15 today. Really. Already? Let me tell you of her ways. She is beautiful, but doesn't think so. She's very smart, an excellent writer. She loves horses, begs for a puppy, is happy when I bring home little gifts, and never wants to walk with me. She loves to sing. She wishes her hair were any color but red. She despises those in power in this country, reads novels by gifted women, and spends time with the Northern Sun catalog looking up savvy sounding peacenikking bumperstickers. She butts heads with her mother, I think, because we each like things to be done our own way. She does surprisingly kindhearted things, more as she grows, and she makes grown ups laugh. She's learned some very hard lessons this past year, but we're on the other side of that now, and in the end the things she's learned will serve her well. She can't wait to get her license, wants to go to college in Pennsylvania, and listens to decent music. That's my girl.
