My eyes are opening to so many things that divide people. Things I've known for years but the stories are coming out now that this is my job. Partners in a business who want to make changes but simply will not listen to each other's concerns. They can't listen; they have to back up their own agenda. People who think that the way to solve a problem in a church is to get rid of the pastor or leave rather than taking a good look at their interactions and their responsibility for what is going on. People who cannot forgive, and fail to realize that the gift of forgiveness is that the forgiver moves toward wholeness along with the forgiven, or even without the one forgiven. People who, having been injured emotionally in the past, come upon a new situation which remotely reminds them of the past incident, and they remain locked in an old response. People who simply have not been schooled to approach problems with an open mind, patience, and a good deal of creativity. Most folks have a hard time facing change--the trick is to approach them all with compassion and help them move past their fears.
