Let's say you are about to be consecrated as a deacon in your church. This means that you have ten families in your church that you're assigned to in order to assist the pastor with, well, pastoral care. This means you check in with each family from time to time, visit if someone is in the hospital, and are available to listen and help out when there is a crisis. You might send birthday cards or send some kind of baked goods at Christmas. Let's say you are deeply honored and totally excited about this. You send out little notecards to each family as an introduction. The day of consecration comes and goes and now you're on your own with these families. If you were a deacon, what kinds of things would you do for your families? If you were a member of one of the families, what would you like your deacon to do for you?
