It's very quiet here in the office on Sunday night. My office away from home office is in a building that is part of a pretty quiet conference center/service center (meaning warehouse space for disaster relief that goes out around the globe--think Church World Service school kits). I spent the morning in a meeting, working with a steering committee, dreaming up better ways to do good work and scripting a longer to do list.

In the afternoon, after everyone was gone, I checked out the organizational library, browsed a bunch of peace books, talked my son through a book review assignment by phone, ate leftover stir fry and sat down to check out the news.

"Four schoolchildren were killed by gunfire in Baghdad yesterday shortly after a roadside bomb ripped through a US military vehicle, witnesses said.

Some said the children, all aged about 12, were shot by US troops who opened fire randomly after the blast in eastern Baghdad. The children had left their nearby school to look at the burning Humvee, the witnesses said.

A US military spokesman said one soldier was killed in the explosion and three wounded.."
