Alright, maybe I just needed a Mercy Street break. For 3 weeks.

My girl was in the high school production of "Working" this past weekend. It is so good to see your child up on that stage. Wow, you know, she's beautiful, she has talent, she worked hard on her parts. You just sit there and think, "There she is!!" over and over and you smile, or tear up. All difficult things in real life are forgotten. And though the play itself never really caught on when it's been produced, it is an awesome thing. To think that every word in the monologues are the words of someone who lived them. A play about ordinary people living their lives.

Still on Pema Chodron. Reading is very sparse these days since Christmas break is over. Too many things to do. Here is what I'm learning: if someone hurts you, instead of shutting down, or thinking of revenge, just sit with the hurt, observe your heart in it's woundedness, and use it as an opportunity to wake up to things like patience and kindness.
